Z I N E
Urban dictionary describes a Zine as a cheaply-made, cheaply-priced publication, often in black and white, which is mass produced via photocopier and bound with staples.
My introduction to zines came about thanks to Melissa Findley and her first zine, "I Know A Place". It was was a beautiful full colour creation, filled with photos Melissa had taken on her travels. I then purchased a teeny tiny, adorable little mini zine by Sam Viloria. It was this little creation, made using just a single piece of paper, that opened my eyes to the other side of zines and I quickly fell in love. I realised that I could make something, say something and put it out there in physical form for others to hold, read and keep. I loved how personal they felt, there's something really endearing about them! (Google zines or search on etsy, there are tonnes of amazing creations out there) I started brainstorming! It was just after Christmas and so many people I knew were struggling, including myself, before I knew it I had planned a 12 page interactive intro to self-care.
It has been so much fun creating this first zine and I have learnt so much along the way, not only about making this type of thing but also about myself. It isn't perfect, there are words missing here and there, bits might have been cut a little wonky, I've had to problem solve my way through it all, just me, my computer and my cheap trusty printer/copier. I have spent hours, drawing, re-drawing, typing, colouring, cutting, gluing, tying, printing, folding, re-printing and pouring love into this little thing and now it's finished.
So here it is!
The cover is made with beautiful eco paper and is bound with coloured thread.
Inside are 12 interactive pages printed on 50% recycled paper. Each zine is unique, while the content is the same, each is coloured and put together differently. There are hidden notes, stickers, activities, some truths from a T-Rex and more.
Zines are $8 and postage is free, if you would like one send me a message here!
Much love X
