Y A L L I N G U P
Last week we escaped down south and spent a few days in Yallingup. What a beautiful spot! We stayed in a two bedroom villa at Chandlers Smiths Beach Villas and were greeted by beautiful ocean views as soon as we walked through our door. Being winter, it was quiet and cold but we had packed accordingly and peace was exactly what we were after. It was a three minute walk to the beach and what a stunning beach it is! The bright blues make it hard to look away.
We decided to spend time doing 'touristy stuff' and our first stop was Mammoth Cave. Unlike other caves in the area, this is a self-guided cave and once you're underground it is easy to see how it got it's name, this cave is HUGE. The first chamber is very accessible to people of all abilities but subsequent chambers involve stairs, a lot of them! Being underground is a surreal experience, it is quiet and so still, it feels like a whole other world. I was blown away by the size and beauty of this cave. After spending 40 minutes inside, we saw daylight and were greated by another set of stairs that took us to the surface, before finishing with a walk through the forrest. On the way back to our villa we stopped at Yallingup Maze, which also blew me away with its size! If you are looking for an activity to entertain (tire out) your kids, this is the place! Izzy loved running around the maze completing the challenges and was so much better at it than me! If they still have energy to spare when they're done, there are two playgrounds and a cafe filled with boardgames for them to play with.
Izzy loves mini golf, so we couldn't have a family getaway without including her favourite activity. We chose to golf at Simmo's in Dunsborough and we weren't disappointed. Simmo's have an 18 hole mini golf course, set amongst beautifully manicured gardens. I scored the only hole in one but it wasn't enough for me to win the game, with Justin taking out top spot. Izzy was happy to have finished with the highest score (ha) and we all celebrated with ice-cream. The hardest part of that whole morning was deciding what flavour ice-cream to choose, there were so many amazing options. I went with Snickers and it was incredible. We trekked through Cape Naturaliste National Park, played in playgrounds, had amazing food, played Scrabble, slept in, ate pancakes and watched a group of surfers do their thing.
It was a great few days that left me feeling extremely grateful. I will be uploading my favourite shots to my photography portfolio, if you are interested in a print please don't hesitate to contact me.
